Wood flooring is a large investment in your home and can last for 100+ years if properly installed. You will need to do some research before you make your final decision, because you will be looking at this floor for years to come.
Look at the different types of hard wood flooring that is available. The main type of hardwood flooring that is available is parquet, bamboo, laminate, vinyl, or reclaimed wood flooring.
Parquet flooring is wood pieces in an angular or geometrical design. The color of the woods used in the Parquet flooring design can be the same color or a mixture of woods to create different colors.
Bamboo flooring is known as Moso and made out of bamboo plants. Bamboo flooring has a longer life expectancy, is stronger, bug resistant, long life expectancy, and more economical.
Laminate flooring is a synthetic floor that is fused together to look like wood, tile or stone. Laminate flooring is very economical but not as durable as real flooring and has about a 10 year life.
Reclaimed flooring is wood that could have been a floor in an older building or barn that was salvaged for use in a flooring job. The wood floors that were installed in homes years ago ranged from ¾” to 1″ in depth; there have been rare instances of the wood being 2″ thick. This wood is cleaned, planed down to a thinner depth of about ½ inch in depth or so and installed in a home owner’s residence. This wood is very durable, and has a long life span. chevron engineered parquet flooring
Once you have made the decision of which type of flooring to install in the residence, it is now time to decide if you are going to install it yourself or have it done by a professional floor installation service. You have made the choice to invest in your home and now it is time to make sure the job is done right.
While considering which way to go, remember that you need the correct supplies. This includes glue, asphalt felt to absorb moisture, wood filler, first aid kit, carpenter square, nails or screws, hammer, screw driver, power drill, staple gun, wood floor electric nailer, instruction books or tapes on how to install the wood flooring, family and/or friends to help with the job. But the most important thing that is needed is the time to do the floor installation.
If you are considering the installation of the floor by a professional person or service you will need to do some research. Check with people that have had their wood flooring installed. Ask them questions like, was the floor installed correctly and on time? Have they experienced any problems with the wood flooring, such as buckling or warping? Did they come in on budget? How long did it take for the floor to be installed? Did they get a discount on the flooring if you purchased it from the professional person or service that installed the floor? Quite often the supplies are considerably less expensive if you purchase the flooring from the company installing the wood flooring.
While you are getting answers to those questions, remember that if you have the flooring professionally installed, you will save relationships that you have with the family and friends that you were going to ask to help you with this project. You will also save the money that you would have spent on supplies and tools that are needed for the installation. You will not have to deal with the mess and clean up that goes with a wood floor installation. The most important detail to remember is, the time that you saved and are able to doing something fun with the family and friends that are important to you.
